Return to the main pageArt Classes OfferingMark Making with Transfer Techniques Instructor: Claudette Losier One Day Workshop: Come and play and learn the various transfer techniques to create stories with pictures using polyclens, bondex, and polymer emulsion. The transfer technique is a form of photo based mono printing or mark making. You can never recreate the same mark or image. It?s a form of DADA art making with your abandonment to chance working your intuition. The instructor in this one day workshop will start by showing varied examples of her body of work since 1988 using transfers for inspiration to the attendees, and then give a small demonstration on the various methods of this technique. This will include using the transfer technique as a base for process art and adding other methods such as collage, encaustic, coffee for staining, etc. The instructor will also provide some examples of other interesting work of art and/or art history notes namely Robert Rauschenberg, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to attendees throughout the workshop. The focus will be story telling using pictures based on the popular phrase ?a picture tells a thousand words?.
Botanical Drawing Instructor: Claudette Losier Learn to draw botanical subject matter using the elements of drawing, various tools and assignments to develop your seeing. The focus will be on the following elements of design: line and form, light and shade, texture, space and perspective, formal composition, and colour. The instructor will provide some examples of her own paintings, drawings, and/or do demonstrations plus discuss art history notes from the masters, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to students on drawing assignments to develop their skill.
Drawing for Beginners Instructor: Claudette Losier Learn the elements of drawing using various drawing tools and assignments to develop your seeing via right brain thinking. The focus will be on the following elements of design: line and form, light and shade, texture, space and perspective, formal composition, and colour. The instructor will provide some examples of her own drawing and/or demonstration and art history notes from the masters and notes from ?Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain?, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to students on drawing assignments to develop their skill.
Floral Painting Instructor: Claudette Losier Learn to paint from floral subject matter using the elements of design to develop your painting. The focus will be on the following elements of design: form, light and shade, space and perspective, formal composition, and colour. The instructor will provide some examples of her own paintings, and/or do demonstrations plus discuss art history notes from the masters, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to students on painting assignments to develop their skill.
Oil Painting for Beginners Instructor: Claudette Losier Learn how to use oil paints and brushes, mixed colours, set up your composition, and various techniques available for use in painting. The focus will be on setting up a strong interesting composition, and how to achieve form and volume with colour. This course will focus on painting a still life from oils. Students will learn how to develop their seeing by translating what they see into the language of oil paint. The students will do some smaller alla prima paintings of the still life to start with then work on one larger prolong painting that looks at the phases of painting from tinting the support to putting on the finishing touches of the still life work of art. The instructor will provide some examples of oil paintings of still life from the masters and/or demonstration and art history notes from the masters, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to students.
Portraiture for Beginners Instructor: Claudette Losier Learn the elements of drawing portraits using various drawing tools and assignments to develop right brain thinking. The focus will be on the following elements of design: line and form, light and shade, texture, space and perspective, and colour. Students will learn how to develop their seeing via right brain thinking by translating what they see into the language of drawing plus also learn sighting techniques to help develop their seeing portraiture correctly in 3 views: frontal, profile and three-quarter. The instructor will provide some examples of her own drawing and/or demonstration and art history notes from the masters, notes from ?Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain?, but mainly provide one-on-one assistance to students on drawing assignments to develop their skill.
In my career as an artist I have done a lot of work with portraiture in graphite, pastels and oils. I started exploring portraiture in graphite and in chalk pastel in High School using images of beautiful models in fashion magazines and babies. Later at Brock in my graduating year I explored the method of chalk pastel with vaseline in a series of portraitures of Athletes caught with various expressions on their faces.
