#2 Transfer Art Body of Work
Throughout my 17 years of art making since graduating from BrockUniversity in 1989 I have resorted at times to the creative technique of "transfers".I have developed a body of work that explores various ways to translate pictures or images using 3 different mediums for transfers:polyclens, bondex, and polymer emulsion. The transfer technique is a form of photo based mono printing or mark making where you transfer or remove toner from a black and white or colour photo copy onto your support. You can never recreate the same mark or image. For me it is also a form of DADA art making with your abandonment to chance working your intuition.I offer a workshop on this technique thatincludes using the transfer technique as a base for process art and adding other methods such as collage, encaustic, coffee for staining, etc.A workshop is being offered in the Spring April 18th 2009 through the BurlingtonArtCenter and May 30th at Mohawk College.I learned of the polyclens transfer technique at Brock and by Pop Artist Robert Rauschenberg and added the bondex and polymer emulsion later on. This body of work I call "Transfer Stories" based on the popular phrase "a picture tells a thousand words".In 1999, I won best in show award at the Art Center of Clarington for my polyclens transfer self portrait called Emotional Currents. In 2009 I submitted some of my transfers to call for the first International juried show called NeoPopRealism in the US.My transfer works did not win any awards but have been selected for publication in book called 21st Century Art published by the team at NeoPopRealism and to be produced at end of 2009.

#3 Portraiture Body of Work
Since High School I have found portraiture drawing and painting extremely easy.
I use to do a lot of chalk pastels then.At Brock I tried to do a wall size drawing with more then 32 faces popping out of open doors.I never completed it but have cut up the faces to be used for teaching. In my last year exploring the sport life I did a serious of 7 faces of various athletes caught in different emotions using chalk pastel and Vaseline. Four of these pastel works received best in show award in 1990 at the Scarborough Civic Centre?s Juried show. After Brock I started to explore self portrait like Van Go and the other great masters but mine were 3 X 5 inches. As I was painting these little paintings I would document the process by letting it dry and making a colour copy of that stage of the painting.I used this documentation to create a wall size installation that was exhibited at the Hamilton Artists Inc.I now can use these copies as a teaching tool.Today I focus more on my floral paintings rather then portraiture but I have just recently return to sketching and using the blind contour technique drawing interesting faces I come upon. These may be used for some transfer art projects in the future. Also I was recently asked to do a commissioned conti drawing of a 12 year old girl that was successful and shows that our skills never die.

Figurative
I was modeling for Brian Smith's class where he had me pose like Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending the Staircase demonstrating to his students how you can abstract the figure. I got very inspired and during my break doodled in my 3X5 sketch book a small drawing of his painting on the wall in his studio of Tanya in Red Robe. I liked the way I was drawing the figure leaving parts out and decided to take it further into a painting of abstracting the figure which may become a new series. Model draws from other artists drawing of models. Its been a year now sketching in my little book and its helped me to develop a new visual language with my lines and this painting is the second to try out my sketching free hand then paint!
